The Parade Quay, Europaplads, the river and the current Harbour Square are areas which will be significantly changed in the coming years. And the new Main Library and Citizens’ Services will be placed at the centre of it all. What will happen, who is involved and what are the visions for the project New central urban waterfront and Mediaspace?

On 26 March 2008, the City Council approved the recommendation for the commencement of the architectural competition for Mediaspace etc. on the southern bastion/inner harbour in Aarhus – the city’s central urban space.

From 9 to 12 March, a group of ten people undertook a study tour to The Netherlands. It was four busy and very exciting days with visits to innovative, recent library- and culture buildings in The Netherlands.

A large and important step in the Mediaspace project has been taken. The City of Aarhus and Realdania have jointly selected the six teams, which will compete for the right to draw Aarhus’ new urban waterfront and Mediaspace.

The nominated teams

The six teams, which are given the opportunity to present their ideas for an exciting cohesion between the city and the bay, are a mixture of Danish and foreign players:
